Daughter of Texas by Celia Hayes

This historical novel is set during a period of history that is of great interest to western buffs like myself. The book takes place around the dawn of Texas and not since Elmer Kelton have I read anything that so effectively brings early Texas to life.

The book is a prelude to the author's Adelsverein Trilogy, which I must confess to not having read, however that didn't spoil my enjoyment of this book, which can pretty much standalone.

The main focus is on Margaret Becker and we see these fast changing times through her eyes. And what an engaging, well realised character she is.

Daughter of Texas is out there now.
