This episode was part of a series based on the fact that Conan Doyle claimed he got much of the character for Sherlock Holmes from his old tutor, Dr. Jospeh Bell. These fictional cases involve a young Doyle and Bell working together to solve baffling cases. The entire series was given away on DVD back a year or so ago by the UK newspaper, The Daily Express. But it is also available in a handsome box set.
It was an interesting and successful series and yet for some bizarre reason no second series has ever turned up. This episode features Rick Myall in a rare dramatic role and he gives a great and chilling performance.
It really was a brilliant series and can be viewed by non Holmes fans - anyone in fact who likes a good well acted, brilliantly produced crime drama. The BBC of course have always triumphed with such productions and this is another example of high quality television.
