THE SAINT MYSTERY MAGAZINE JULY 1967

I knew I had a couple of old Saint Mystery Magazines amongst my pulp collections and so I thought I'd pick one out to talk about as part of this Saint Weekend. Published in 1967 with a cover price of 50C or 3/6 UK. The cover features a still from the Roger Moore Saint TV series and inside there is a novelisation of the episode The Gadget Lovers. This book length tale is not written by Charteris but by Fleming Lee from the script by John Kruse.

Other fiction, not Saint stories, are supplied by Michael Innes, Helen McCloy, Leighla Whipper, Edward D. Hoch, Istvan Leochy and the great Cornell Woolrich.

There are also book reviews, looking at the latest crime books which covers, among others, the latest Victor Canning and Ellery Queen.

Charteris himself always wrote the editorial of the magazines and this one is an entertaining and prophetic message about pollution.

It must have been great in the days when magazines like this one were all over the shops - the pulps were everywhere and would often be offered in spinning racks outside train stations, bus stations - in fact anywhere. In those far gone days the public appetite for new fiction was massive and would be served by the hundreds upon hundreds of different pulp magazines around the world.

Pity they went away really.

I have a copy of the American edition somewhere around the house(packed away in a box no doubt). I remember the cover.

Sadly, my copies of the Saint magazine went the way of many old periodicals... Those were the days when men's magazines actually ran short stories instead of lifestyle features... Days when imagination was more important than 'reality' stuff. Thanks for the nostalgia fix, Gary. And well done on producing so much over what was obviously a busy weekend anyway!

VAPING IS SAFER THAN BREATHING

The UK's new tax on vaping which will come into force in 2026 is not only immoral but patently insane, and will hit those reformed smok...
