Good work, Gary. The local press shouldn't be neglected in building a campaign, though it may not produce as many sales/readings as your wider efforts. The best local interest I ever managed to raise was when I used a local geographical feature, Hellyer's Creek, as a place name in the title of a western! Made the local suburban rag's front page. (If anyone wants to see the "real" creek, it's pictured in the Writers and Money article at www.blackhorsewesterns.com/bhe1 )

The best newspaper quote I was ever given was in a New Zealand Herald review:
"You could as well have been watching a movie as reading a book
. . . O'Keefe writes westerns with the coolness of a hired gun."

That's a great quote, Keith. The coolness of a hired gun

Nice piece. I always love the way the pictures are done. Author... therefore must have pen and paper in hand.

That's very good. It shows you off as multi-faceted, interesting and successful. :-) The headline in the paper for my first release was 'Jo's book should be quick draw'. It made me laugh.

Ian - the pic was actually taking in a wonderful park that we drove ten miles to get to. I was seated on some rocks looking out at the wonder of South Wales in early spring - and they cropped it!

Jo-LOL. And I only cabbie part time - still some nice publicity for my brother's firm.

Gary, the same thing happened to me when something appeared in the local paper. I spent half an hour wandering around the forest at the back of my house while the photographer searched for just the right tree to find me leaning against. Then we did some with this friendly horse in the background. In the end they printed the quicky he did inside when he first arrived.

Congrats on the newspaper blurb. They did a good job of explaining who you are and how well your debut novel is selling (even though it's pre-ordered right now).

Great interview, Gary. And I like the photo. It has something of a "cool gunslinger" look about it but with a pen and paper and not a six gun. I love the place names too. Sounds like Klingon, not Welsh.

Wow! What a good write-up. And the photo is quite authorial. I interested in your historical crime novel. When's that going to be written?

Come June, I'll be picking up a copy of Tarnished Star and lobbying my two local libraries to obtain copies.

Very cool. Great interview. My hometown newspaper never did such a fine write up on me.
