westerns:the classic collection

This magazine may be of interest to readers of this blog. It's another of those part work that come with a DVD each issue. This time the theme is classic westerns and issue one which is at a special price of £2.99 includes The Magnificent Seven.

I'm annoyed with this collection as I already have all the titles featured in the first ten issues - ahh well, I suppose many western buffs will. But for anyone wanting to build a western movie collection this is a great option - not only will you get the film but a great magazine to go with each title.
The magazine which comes with the film is pretty slim but filled with interesting information and some good rare photographs.

I'll probably end up collecting it just for the magazine and then flog the films on Ebay.

each issue features several sections related to the movie in each particular section. These include behind the scenes info, actor and director profiles, historical perspectives.

I've bought the first one as for some reason I've never got around to buying a copy of the Magnificent Seven - I guess it's on TV enough to have made me not bother.

I don't think I'll buy anymore as, like you, I have many of the films to be included in this partwork and the price doesn't justify the spending just for a very slim magazine.

Not sure why they haven't profiled each of the seven but still...

Yeah - they should include some of the westerns that are rare on DVD. There's some classics out there which are hard to find. How the west was won for instance.

Couldn't agree more, seems strange to offer films that most western fans would probably already have.

I did the same - buying just the first issue - when they put out the Taggart partwork.

And tonight I just saw an advert for a new one, the complete Buffy the Vampire Slayer set along with all the Angel shows. Now that will get expensive if you're tempted.

yeah I collected The prioner and STAR Trek ones in the past. Think I'll give Buffy a miss though

The only one in the series that I haven't got is The Big Country - but as it's a fiver in HMV - 'nuff said about that.

What I would like to see is a part work on Spaghetti Westerns - apart from the Dollar movies and OUTITW there were others like Django, The Big Gundown, A Professional Gun and Il Mio West with David Bowie.
The list could go on - but that type of partwork would be of great interest.

As for Buffy - yep, just for the first two series and then it got a bit rubbishy.

Discovered the next 5 - includes The Professionals; The Wild Bunch and The Outlaw Josey Wales.

To put an add-on to my post re: a spaghetti western partwork. This weekend I was at my son's where we watched Franco Nero in Texas, Adios and A Bullet For The General - part of a season, on Movies4Men, sponsored by www.westernsdvd.co.uk - the producers of the current western partwork.

Ray - The professionals seems to be the only one I don't have from the entire set.
